DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

How Apparel & Footwear Compare to Electronics & Automotive Industry in the Race for Automation.

As I am concerned there is still no research or study to compare on the adoption rate in data automation and digitalization between apparel & footwear vs electronics & automotive industries. But what we are all aware of is, there are many systems from other industries that have been adopted by apparel and footwear manufacturers i.e. Lean Manufacturing – from Henry Ford (1920’s) to Taiichi Ohno of Toyota(1950’s) Six Sigma – Bill Smith and Mikel Harry of Motorola (1980’s) Kaizen and TQM – Dr. W Edwards Deming a scholar and teacher in USA whose ideas were widely implemented by industrial sectors i.e. Ford, Toyota, Xerox, Ricoh, Sony, P&G The above 3 methodologies and approaches have proven themselves giving significant benefits to many companies, so it has now become standard practice for apparel and footwear industries to implement those. The next journey is to do digital transformation and use the data to gain even more benefits. Some companies have successfully completed, some have not, and many are still stuck with traditional mindset. The questions are: Are you or your factories ready for Digital Transformation (DX)? Are you or your factories understand on the benefits of Digital Transformation (DX)? If you or your factories have started DX, have you measured the benefits? We would like to get your feedback to understand where Apparel and Footwear industries are, and to answer the questions of this subject: “Are Apparel and Footwear left behind in digitalization?”.
